Body of 7-year-old autistic child who went missing on February 29 found in stream

The body of a 7-year-old autistic child who went missing on February 29 in Kütahya has been found in a stream.

Search efforts initiated to find Mehmet Furkan Derin, who went missing on February 29 in the town of Tunçbilek in Kütahya, were conducted along the Adranos Stream passing near the area and its surroundings.

As a result of the efforts, Derin's body was found in the stream approximately 1.5 kilometers from Azerbaijan Park, the area where he was last seen.

The child's lifeless body, recovered from the stream by teams, was taken to the morgue of Tavşanlı Doç. Dr. Mustafa Kalemli State Hospital following an examination.

In the town of Tunçbilek, 7-year-old Mehmet Furkan Derin had gone missing on February 29 while playing in Azerbaijan Park, and search efforts were launched by gendarmerie and AFAD teams dispatched to the area upon notification. An examination of municipal camera recordings had determined that the child was last seen by the stream.

Approximately 200 people from AFAD, the Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK), IHH Search and Rescue, AKUT, the Turkish Red Crescent, and several other institutions and organizations had participated in the search efforts.
