Tensions have not subsided at Boğaziçi University since the appointment of a rector by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2021.
The university's first rector to take office through an election, Prof. Dr. Üstün Ergüder, was denied entry to the school.
The news that Ergüder, who served as rector between 1992 and 2000 and spent 50 years at Boğaziçi University, was unable to enter the campus was announced by Prof. Dr. Mine Eder:
"I have just learned that our professor Üstün Ergüder, who dedicated 50 years of his life to Boğaziçi University, including his tenure as rector between 1992 and 2000, was not allowed onto the campus. Shame on you! For those who do not know, he is Boğaziçi's first elected rector. And the main green square of the campus, where everyone takes photos, is named Üstün Ergüder Square..."
Az önce 1992-2000 yılları arasında yaptığı rektörlük de dahil 50 yılını Boğaziçi Üniversitesine vermiş Üstün Ergüder hocamızın kampüse alınmadığını öğrendim. Yazıklar olsun!#KabulEtmiyoruz#Vazgeçmiyoruz
