Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan arrested

CHP Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, Deputy Mayor Süleyman Can, and Ali Sarıyıldız, who were taken into custody, had been facing a request for arrest. CHP MP Mahmut Tanal announced that Özcan and Can have been arrested.

A total of 13 people, including Özcan and Bolu Deputy Mayor Süleyman Can, had been detained in an "extortion" operation launched by the Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

It was learned that Özcan, who was brought to the courthouse by gendarmerie teams, was referred to the court with a request for arrest following his statement to the prosecutor.

CHP MP Mahmut Tanal, who was following the process at the courthouse, expressed his reaction to the referral for arrest on his account on the social media platform X, stating: "There is no concrete evidence for the referral for arrest. There is no personal gain. There is no suspicion of flight. There is no possibility of tampering with evidence. Yet our Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, Süleyman Can, and Ali Sarıyıldız have been referred for arrest."

TANJU ÖZCAN AND HIS DEPUTY ARRESTED

CHP MP Mahmut Tanal announced that Özcan and Can were arrested, while the other individuals were released under judicial control conditions.

Tanal wrote the following:

"The Bolu Criminal Court of Peace has issued an arrest warrant for our Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan and Deputy Mayor Süleyman Can. The others were released under judicial control."

A decision for house arrest for a period of 4 months was issued for Bolu Municipal Council member Ali Sarıyıldız, who had been referred with a request for arrest.
