Bolu Mountain Tunnel to be closed to traffic

The Provincial Coordination Board meeting, chaired by Bolu Governor Erkan Kılıç, was held at the Provincial Special Administration building. Governor Kılıç, district governors, mayors, and officials from official institutions attended the meeting.

Explaining the 2024 investment projects at the meeting, Highways 4th Regional Director Savaş Bayındır stated that the extension work for the Istanbul-bound tube of the Bolu Mountain Tunnel, whose Ankara-bound tube was extended last year due to landslide risk, will begin at the end of July or the beginning of August, saying, "We had extended one part of the tube, and we are planning to extend the other tube as well. Once our work on the state road is finished, we will start this project at the end of July or the beginning of August. The tender has been completed, and we anticipate the work will last approximately 50 days."

As part of landslide prevention measures, the Ankara-bound tube of the Bolu Mountain Tunnel was extended by 90 meters last year. For the Istanbul-bound direction, 300 tons of steel will be used, and the tube will be extended by 67 meters. The application will be made on a 7-millimeter double-plate bellows. Traffic in the Istanbul direction on the 23-kilometer section of the Bolu Mountain Pass, which includes the Bolu Mountain Tunnel and lies between the Kaynaşlı and Abant junctions, will be diverted from the Abant Junction to the D-100 highway. Drivers will be able to re-enter the motorway from the Kaynaşlı Junction.
