The Ankara-bound section of the Bolu Mountain Tunnel was closed to traffic on September 25 and was extended by 90 meters following 42 days of work due to landslide risks.
At the Provincial Coordination Meeting organized by the Bolu Governorship, it was announced that the Istanbul-bound tube of the Bolu Mountain Tunnel will be extended by 60 meters during the summer months to mitigate landslide risks.
"WORK WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN JULY-AUGUST"
Speaking at the Provincial Coordination Meeting, General Directorate of Highways 4th Regional Director Mehmet Fidan stated that work will be carried out on the Istanbul-bound direction during the summer months, saying, "We will extend the Istanbul-bound direction by approximately 60 meters. It is planned for this year. We are considering the holidays. We are considering the season and periods when traffic is light. Considering that Eid al-Adha is in June and schools are on break, the work will be carried out in July-August."
"A SPECIAL TEAM WILL ARRIVE"
Stating that a special team will arrive from Austria, Director Fidan said, “A special team will come from Austria. We are working on a separate project regarding the landslide area. A team of experts from Austria on these matters will arrive. In fact, they will arrive on January 29.
They will come, and our work is ongoing toward a specific solution unique to that area and that landslide, aimed at holding the landslide at the top and preventing it from above.
The idea of extending the tunnel up to that point, up to the landslides, is also on our minds. The 60-meter extension will only hold the material coming from the immediate top part of the tunnel,” he said.
