Bomb scare in Başakşehir
Police teams were dispatched to the Turgut Özal Metro Station in Istanbul's Başakşehir district following a bomb threat. The device, which was neutralized by bomb disposal experts, was determined to be a fake improvised explosive device. The Istanbul Governor's Office has issued a statement regarding the incident.

In Istanbul's Başakşehir district, a simple IED-like device placed on a wall between the Turgut Özal Metro Station and the Esenler Industrial Site was neutralized by police teams and taken to the Bomb Disposal Branch for examination.
The Istanbul Governor's Office issued a written statement regarding the matter. In its statement, the Governor's Office noted that efforts are underway to identify who placed the object, which was designed to look like a hand grenade.
The statement from the Governor's Office is as follows:
"Our Istanbul Police Department teams arrived at the Turgut Özal Metro Station in Başakşehir district following a bomb threat received at 15:07 on Wednesday, 15.05.2024. During the inspection conducted by our teams in the area, an object designed to look like an improvised explosive device was found hidden on a wall between the Turgut Özal Metro Station and the Esenler Industrial Site. The area was evacuated by our security teams, necessary safety measures were taken, and the object in question was neutralized by bomb disposal experts. Inside the device, which was made to look like an improvised explosive, it was observed that there were 2 grams of an unidentified flammable powder, a firecracker fuse, a medicine box wrapped in transparent tape, and 1 AA battery. Efforts to identify and apprehend the individual who placed the device in the area are ongoing."
