Effective as of today in Ankara, there will be a 25 percent price increase for 200-gram bread.
Ankara Bakers Chamber President Gürsel Alnıaçık made a statement regarding the hike in bread prices.
THEY REQUESTED IT AT THE START OF THE YEAR
Explaining that they had requested a price hike for bread in Ankara at the beginning of the year but that the increase had been postponed, Alnıaçık stated the following:
“Bread in Ankara should have been 10 TL at the beginning of the year because at the start of the year, a 58 percent raise was given to workers employed in bakeries. Bakery workers in Ankara are members of the Tek Gıda İş Union. Naturally, we reached an agreement with the union based on 58 percent. However, this raise was not granted to us at the beginning of the year and was postponed. After the start of the year, there were price hikes for flour, yeast, and all other inputs. Therefore, we were forced to raise the price of bread.”
In Ankara, 200-gram bread will be sold for 10 TL, and 400-gram 'Ata' bread will be sold for 20 TL. The price of 200-gram bran, whole wheat, and rye bread, as well as 'çiçek' bread, has been set at 15 TL.
