Breaking! Bora Kaplan files request to join Cevheri Güven case

Bora Kaplan, who was sentenced to 68 years in prison on charges of being the leader of an organized crime syndicate, has filed a request to join the case opened against 4 police officers accused of leaking information to “FETÖ” fugitive Cevheri Güven. Kaplan also filed a criminal complaint, stating that he was directly harmed by the crimes allegedly committed by these police officers.

“FETÖ” fugitive Cevheri Güven, who is part of the organization's media structure, is accused of receiving information and documents from police officers. Ahead of the first hearing on February 21 at the Ankara 17th High Criminal Court, Bora Kaplan's lawyer, Oğuzhan Bilgin, filed a criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the police officers, alleging they caused severe grievances for his client. The case involves police officer Serkan Dinçer from the Ankara Narcotics Branch, who is charged with “membership in an armed terrorist organization,” and former Ankara Deputy Police Chief Murat Çelik, former Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch Manager Kerem Gökay Öner, and Deputy Branch Manager Şevket Demircan, who are charged with “committing crimes on behalf of an organization without being a member, violating confidentiality, and misconduct in office.”

Attorney Bilgin also submitted a petition to the 17th High Criminal Court requesting to join the case, stating the following:

“Since the outcome of this case will also affect Bora Kaplan, and because the client has an interest in rectifying the injustice he has suffered and uncovering the material truth, it has become necessary for us to request intervention in the case at hand. Within the scope of the indictment subject to the case, it is stated that the police officers delivered citizens' personal information to FETÖ member Cevheri Güven, to those abroad, and to other FETÖ members in order to create an agenda regarding the ongoing trials and investigations and to incite the public to hatred and enmity. As can be seen from the content of the indictment, one of the victims is the client, Bora Kaplan. It is considered that determining whether the defendants committed the alleged crimes, subjecting them to cross-examination, the fact that the crime was committed directly against the client, the fact that the client was directly harmed by the crime, that the concrete truth can only be reached if our request to join is accepted, that the client personally expressing the grievances he experienced in his own investigations and prosecutions in this file will contribute to the file, and that the client's statements will play an effective role in the case at hand.”
