Seismic activity has been observed off the coast of the Istanbul Islands in the Sea of Marmara over the last 24 hours. According to data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Earthquake Department, a total of 32 tremors were recorded in the region between August 19 and 20.
The magnitudes of the recorded earthquakes ranged between 1.1 and 3.2. The largest tremor occurred at 17:43 on August 19 at a distance of 10.23 kilometers from the Islands. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 3.2, with a depth of 7 kilometers.
According to AFAD data, tremors were recorded consecutively in the region starting from the evening hours of August 19. On the same day, earthquakes with magnitudes of 2.6 occurred at 19:17, 2.5 at 20:58, and 1.9 at 22:51.
The activity continued until the morning of August 20. From midnight until 08:18 in the morning, 21 separate tremors were recorded. During this period, earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.6 occurred at 00:41, and 2.5 at 02:49, 03:33, and 03:45.
In the morning hours, two more tremors with magnitudes of 2.8 at 04:31 and 2.9 at 05:40 were detected. AFAD records reported that the focal depths of the earthquakes generally ranged between 7 and 17 kilometers.
NEW 3.1 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE IN THE ISLANDS
A new tremor occurred in the region during the day. According to data released by the Kandilli Observatory, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 was recorded in the Islands at 11:30.
The tremor, which was stated to have occurred 11 kilometers below the surface, showed that seismic activity in Istanbul and its surroundings continued throughout the day.
