Breaking News: ABB Mayor Mansur Yavaş comments on the appointment of trustees! 'My view as a jurist...'
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş, in his statement following the appointment of trustees to DEM Party-run municipalities, said, "First and foremost, what must be defended here, independently of the individuals involved, is the rule of law and democracy. In democracies, elections are sometimes won and sometimes lost. The public may elect someone you do not want at all. What matters is accepting this. On one hand, while those with convictions are nominated knowing that a trustee will be appointed (at least with the foresight of past years), on the other hand, the administration, the election authorities, and the Supreme Election Council (YSK) must be questioned as to why they allowed these candidacies."

Following the arrest of CHP's Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and the appointment of a trustee in his place, a new wave of trustee appointments has come from the AKP government. The Ministry of Interior has appointed trustees to the Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti municipalities under DEM Party administration.
MANSUR YAVAŞ'S COMMENTS ON THE APPOINTMENT OF TRUSTEES
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş made a statement regarding the issue on his social media account.
Emphasizing 'law' and 'democracy' in his statement, Yavaş said, "First and foremost, what must be defended here, independently of the individuals involved, is the rule of law and democracy.
Calling on the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), Yavaş stated, "My view as a jurist is that the TBMM should urgently make a legal amendment in its first meeting to ensure that someone from the municipal council is elected to replace the removed mayor, thereby ensuring that the will of the voters is reflected in the municipality. It should not be forgotten that the law is as essential a human need as air and water."

"Today, we started the day with trustee appointments again.
First and foremost, what must be defended here, independently of the individuals involved, is the rule of law and democracy. In democracies, elections are sometimes won and sometimes lost. The public may elect someone you do not want at all. What matters is accepting this.
On one hand, while those with convictions are nominated knowing that a trustee will be appointed (at least with the foresight of past years), on the other hand, the administration, the election authorities, and the Supreme Election Council (YSK) must be questioned as to why they allowed these candidacies.
Ignoring the will of the nation in this way will result in voters distancing themselves from the ballot box. Let the public evaluate mayors based on the services they provide or fail to provide. Parties should also determine their candidates accordingly and not select candidates as if they are challenging the system.
My view as a jurist is that the TBMM should urgently make a legal amendment in its first meeting to ensure that someone from the municipal council is elected to replace the removed mayor, thereby ensuring that the will of the voters is reflected in the municipality.
It should not be forgotten that the law is as essential a human need as air and water."
