A notable investigation has been launched regarding two companies traded in the capital markets. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has taken action over allegations of irregularities in Ege Endüstri (EGEEN) and Jantsa (JANTS) shares traded on Borsa Istanbul.
It was reported that the investigation was initiated following a complaint filed by the Capital Markets Board (SPK).
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED UPON SPK COMPLAINT
In a statement issued by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that as a result of examinations and analyses conducted by the SPK, it was determined that investors were misled through social media accounts regarding the shares in question.
According to the statement, it was assessed that the crime of "information-based market fraud," as defined in Article 107/2 of the Capital Markets Law, was committed through the posts made.
INVESTIGATION INTO THREE SEPARATE CRIMES
In the statement by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was recorded that the investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Investigation for the Prevention of Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering Crimes.
The following charges were brought against the suspects within the scope of the investigation:
Violation of the Capital Markets Law (market fraud)
Establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes
Laundering assets derived from crime
SIMULTANEOUS OPERATIONS IN EIGHT PROVINCES
According to information reported by NTV, simultaneous operations were carried out in the provinces of Ankara, Antalya, Kocaeli, Konya, Batman, Ordu, and Amasya, with the operation centered in Istanbul.
Detention orders were executed for 22 suspects who were assessed to have acted in an organized manner.
DIGITAL MATERIALS SEIZED
It was reported that searches were conducted at the addresses belonging to the suspects and that numerous digital materials were taken for examination. Furthermore, it was stated that investigations into the assets assessed to have been obtained by the suspects through crime are ongoing.
The following statements were included in the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's announcement:
"Within the scope of the operations, search procedures were carried out at the suspects' addresses, and investigations regarding digital materials and assets assessed to have been obtained by the suspects through crime are continuing; detention procedures have been applied to the suspects."
