The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has drawn attention with an operation targeting illegal betting and forex fraud. The investigation launched into VEPARA Elektronik Para ve Ödeme Hizmetleri A.Ş. deepened after evidence emerged regarding the laundering of proceeds of crime. Investigations conducted by the Money Laundering Crimes Bureau revealed that the company was systematically laundering criminal proceeds through electronic money infrastructures.
DETAILS OF THE OPERATION
In the simultaneous operation launched in 6 provinces with Istanbul as the center, a broad organizational structure was identified, including the company's software engineers, IT personnel, and project managers. Audit reports from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) and MASAK analyses showed that numerous transactions were carried out to transfer criminal proceeds with domestic and foreign companies. It was determined that electronic money infrastructures played a significant role in this process.
31 SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY
Detention warrants were issued for a total of 31 suspects in the operation. While searches and seizure procedures are ongoing, it is stated that the number of detainees may increase. According to the data obtained, work is also continuing on the identities of individuals who assisted in the laundering of criminal proceeds and played an active role in this process.
