Breaking News: Bayrampaşa Municipality remains with CHP
Following the removal of Bayrampaşa Mayor Hasan Mutlu from office, the process to elect a new acting mayor began. As the tie could not be broken after four rounds, the election for the Bayrampaşa Municipality acting mayor was decided by a lottery. As a result of the draw, CHP member İbrahim Kahraman became the acting mayor.

Following the suspension of Mayor Hasan Mutlu in Bayrampaşa, September 21, 2025, was set for the election of an acting mayor. The election began at 10:00 AM, with CHP candidate İbrahim Kahraman and AKP candidate İbrahim Akın competing.
Police teams took extensive security measures to ensure safety before the election. There are a total of 37 seats in the Bayrampaşa Municipal Council. The CHP holds 17, the AKP 12, the MHP 3, and there are 5 independent members.
According to journalist Barış Yarkadaş, the results of the first round of the election are as follows:
AKP candidate İbrahim Akın: 19 votes
CHP candidate İbrahim Kahraman: 18 votes
Yarkadaş reported that 4 council members who resigned from the CHP voted for the AKP candidate.
SECOND ROUND RESULTS
In the second round of the Bayrampaşa acting mayor election, the AKP member received 18 votes and the CHP member received 18 votes, with one vote declared invalid.
Since the absolute majority of 26 was not reached, the election moved to the third round.
One vote was declared invalid because it was cast incorrectly. There was one extra vote. It was determined that one ballot paper had been pre-stamped.
THIRD ROUND RESULTS
The AKP candidate received 18 votes, the CHP candidate received 18 votes, and one vote was declared invalid.
Since the required 20 votes for an absolute majority were not reached, the election moved to the fourth round.
In the fourth round, the candidate with the most votes would be elected acting mayor.
FIGHT BREAKS OUT AFTER FOURTH ROUND ENDS 18-18
When the 4th round of the election also resulted in an 18-18 tie, intense arguments broke out among the council members in the hall.
The acting mayor was determined by a lottery.
CHP candidate İbrahim Kahraman was elected as the acting mayor of Bayrampaşa Municipality.
HOW MANY COUNCIL MEMBERS DOES THE CHP HAVE?
Following the resignation of four CHP council members from their party last week, the CHP had lost its majority in the Bayrampaşa Municipal Council.
In the municipal council, which has 37 members, the CHP had 18 members remaining after the recent resignations.
The number of AKP, MHP, and independent council members had risen to 19.
