Breaking News... Betting operation in football... Erden Timur detained!

Prominent figures in Turkish football are facing a major betting investigation. Within the scope of the investigation, which includes football players and club executives, detention warrants have been issued for a total of 29 suspects.

Among those for whom detention warrants were issued are 14 football players, and one of the notable names is former Galatasaray executive Erden Timur.

In the operation, detention warrants were issued for 29 suspects, including well-known football players and club executives.

The statement from the Public Prosecutor's Office included the following:

"Within the scope of the investigation conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, known to the public as the 'Football Betting Investigation';

As a result of evidence identified through data obtained from MASAK and legal betting sites, open-source research, PFDK decisions, HTS analysis studies, and the examination of digital items seized from other suspects in the previous two operations,

(7) suspects who were in contact with a detained suspect processed in the previous two simultaneous apprehension, detention, search, and seizure operations and who are assessed to have suspicious financial transactions linked to the alleged crimes under investigation,

(6) suspects who placed bets on the Kasımpaşa-Samsunspor football match dated 26/10/2024, which was understood to be in a manner that would affect the outcome of the match,

(1) suspect whose bank accounts were examined and found to have suspicious financial transactions and a related betting account,

(1) suspect who previously served as an executive at Galatasaray Sports Club (Erden Timur), whose bank accounts were examined and found to have suspicious financial transactions assessed as being in violation of Article 11 of Law No. 6222, Law No. 5549, and Law No. 7258, and which were found to be interconnected,

(14) football player suspects who placed bets in a manner that would affect the outcome of the match (betting that the opposing team would win their own team's match), a total of (29) suspects were subjected to simultaneous apprehension, detention, search, and seizure operations today in (11) different provinces centered in Istanbul."
