Breaking News: Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requests closure case against CHP
Following the indictment regarding the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has submitted a notification to the Court of Cassation for the closure of the CHP.

Completing the indictment regarding the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) operation launched on March 19 after 237 days of work, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office identified IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu as the "number 1 suspect" in the 7-part file and requested a total prison sentence of up to 2,352 years for him.
In line with the same indictment, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office also submitted an official notification to the Court of Cassation, requesting the opening of a closure case against the Republican People's Party (CHP) in accordance with Article 69 of the Constitution.
The following statements were included in the prosecutor's office's relevant notification letter:
"Article 69 of the Constitution states that the financial activities of political parties are subject to judicial review and emphasizes that financing with proceeds of crime is incompatible with the democratic order. Purchasing a party building with proceeds of crime, or interfering with voting preferences by providing material benefits to delegates or promising such benefits, are among the most serious acts that undermine the legitimacy of democratic political life.
In accordance with the findings and evidence explained above;
It has been determined that public resources were misused for election campaigns, proceeds of crime were transferred to a pool (system) with the knowledge and approval of the party's top management, a bribery network was confessed through statements of individuals wishing to benefit from effective remorse, the money flows regarding the source of the building price purchased for the party's legal entity were not documented, and it was understood from witness accounts that the party's top management knew these funds were proceeds of crime; it has been determined that the Republican People's Party acquired assets for the party with proceeds of crime, conducted election campaigns with proceeds of crime, and that these acts were carried out by party organs in a conscious, systematic, and continuous manner.
According to the USOM report obtained within the scope of our investigation file, it was understood that the current domestic and international voter registry data of 11,360,412 citizens, which were identified, were unlawfully disseminated by the Republican People's Party legal entity, that other personal data belonging to voters were processed through this data, that election campaigns were conducted by the Republican People's Party Istanbul Provincial organization using this data, and that in this way, an attempt was made to manipulate the voter will, which is indispensable to democratic political life, and that this was carried out by party organs in a conscious, systematic, and continuous manner.
In light of the findings made within the scope of our investigation file, as it is understood that the Republican People's Party has intervened in the reliability of elections held nationwide and locally, and in a way that affects the will of the voter and the democratic order, in a systematic and continuous manner, a notification has been made by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to the Court of Cassation Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the appreciation and execution of the necessary actions regarding the Republican People's Party in accordance with Articles 68 and 69 of the Constitution and Article 101 and subsequent articles of the Law on Political Parties No. 2820."
