Breaking News... First statement from CHP leader Özgür Özel regarding the Iran-Israel tension!

Following Israel's attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Iran responded with UAV and missile attacks against Israel.

While statements and reactions have come from many countries and international organizations, no official statement has been made from Turkey yet. While the silence of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has drawn attention, a statement came from CHP leader Özgür Özel.

In his statement, Özel said, "We are watching the mutual attacks between Israel and Iran, which threaten our region, with great concern. At a time when tensions in the Middle East have risen to this level, we call on the parties to avoid actions that will increase the tension. We are in a period where we need to remember and embrace our founder's legacy of 'Peace at home, peace in the world'." Pointing out that Turkey should be the pioneer of every effort to lower the tension while its surroundings have turned into a ring of fire, Özel stated, "We believe that it will not be possible to stop the escalation in the region and reduce the risk of conflict without achieving a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. In this context, we reiterate our belief that the only valid solution for ensuring peace, tranquility, and stability is the establishment of a Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem within the 1967 borders."
