Breaking News: Compensation lawsuit filed by Erdoğan against Özgür Özel
Hüseyin Aydın, the lawyer for AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, announced that a 500,000 TL compensation lawsuit has been filed against CHP leader Özgür Özel and that a criminal complaint has been lodged for the crime of insulting the president.

Following the detention of CHP mayors, CHP leader Özgür Özel convened his party's Central Executive Board (MYK) and, after the meeting, reacted to the operations in question, criticizing AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with harsh words.
Reacting to Erdoğan's remarks that "Turkey's leading party is the AK Party," Özel had said, "You coward, if you were the leading party, you would be doing somersaults to get to the ballot box."
Following these remarks, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an ex officio investigation into Özel on allegations of "insulting the president," "publicly inciting to commit a crime," "insulting public officials due to their duties," and "threatening."
500,000 TL LAWSUIT FROM ERDOĞAN AGAINST ÖZEL
Following this development, Erdoğan's lawyer Hüseyin Aydın announced in a statement that a 500,000 TL non-pecuniary damages lawsuit had been filed against Özel.
Aydın also reported that they had filed a criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Özel for the crimes of insulting the president and threatening.

"Regarding the press statement made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel on July 5, 2025, following the MYK meeting,
A 500,000 TL non-pecuniary damages lawsuit has been filed at the Ankara Civil Court of First Instance due to his baseless accusations, insulting expressions, and threatening remarks targeting our President.
Furthermore, a criminal complaint has been filed with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the crime of insulting the President and for the crime of threatening under Article 310/2 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK).
