Breaking News... Decision reached regarding the detained DEM Party Akdeniz Municipality co-mayors and council members!

In Mersin, DEM Party Akdeniz Municipality co-mayors Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Arslan, along with 4 council members, were arrested after being referred to the courthouse as part of a terrorism investigation; one council member was released under judicial control.

An operation was conducted against the DEM Party mayor and council members as part of an investigation carried out by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terrorism Crimes Investigation Bureau.

In simultaneous operations carried out by the Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch on January 10, Akdeniz Municipality co-mayors Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Arslan, as well as DEM Party council members Özgür Çağlar, Neslihan Oruç, Yakup Danış, and Hikmet Bakırhan, were detained.

The mayor and 5 members, who were detained on charges of 'Making Propaganda for a Terrorist Organization', 'Being a Member of an Armed Terrorist Organization', 'Violation of the Law on the Prevention of Financing of Terrorism', and 'Opposition to the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911', were referred to the courthouse yesterday after the completion of their procedures at the police station.

While Mayor Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and 4 council members were arrested, Yakup Danış was released under judicial control conditions.

Meanwhile, a crowd, including DEM Party members of parliament, gathered in front of the courthouse and waited throughout the day for the decision to be announced.
