Breaking News: Detention warrant issued for İsmail Saymaz!

A detention warrant has been issued for journalist İsmail Saymaz as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

According to information provided by Halk TV, where Saymaz works, a search was conducted at the journalist's home following the detention warrant issued on charges of "aiding in the attempt to overthrow the Government of Turkey."

The statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is as follows:

“Regarding the series of actions known in the public eye as the 'Gezi Park' events, which aimed to prevent the 61st Government of the Republic of Turkey from performing its duties through the use of force and violence;

It is understood that the events referred to as the Orange Revolution in Georgia and the Baltic countries, the Arab Spring in Arab countries, and the TAKSIM GEZI PARK events in Turkey were carried out or encouraged through the Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation, managed by GEORGE SOROS, and that financial support was provided to these events, and that this wave, which started in Serbia, was somehow exported to Arab countries and subsequently attempted to be exported to our country as well,

In this direction, it is understood that, unlike in other countries, this plan was adapted to our country's social and ideological structure, utilizing the potential militant power of terrorist organizations of almost every ideology, especially left-wing ones, present in the field, and due to these organizations' constant efforts to take action against the Government of the Republic of Turkey, the masses were somehow pushed/invited to the streets using virtual and social media, and these events

were turned into a focal point where the masses would find themselves in a state of unity directed toward a common goal. It is a known fact that the actions initiated under various pretexts were aimed at reaching dimensions that would allow for the overthrow of the Government of the Republic of Turkey or prevent it from performing its duties by ensuring they received support from almost every segment of society. Due to similarities in their operational logic, it is understood that the Gezi uprising was also organized by George Soros and the domestic extensions of groups aiming for the same ideological objectives in our country.

Within the scope of the investigation numbered 2025/38575 initiated by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, regarding the involvement of the suspect İsmail Saymaz in the Gezi Park events process, which was planned to overthrow the 61st Government of the Republic of Turkey, the following findings were made:

Conversations with individuals who took part in the Taksim Solidarity platform and organized forum meetings to deepen and spread the actions during the Gezi Park events, as well as those who played a role in preparing the website for Mehmet Osman Kavala, the organizer of the Gezi Park events, and in establishing the television channel that the aforementioned person planned to set up to disseminate his actions through the press,

Intense contact during the events with Mehmet Osman Kavala, Şerafettin Can Atalay, Çiğdem Mater Utku, and Ayşe Mücella Yapıcı, who are the main defendants in the Gezi trial and were in positions responsible for the organization and direction of the events,

Furthermore, open-source research conducted on him revealed that he made numerous posts on his personal social media accounts regarding the Gezi Park events, attempted to spread the uprising—which was carried out according to a plan and scenario—across the entire country, took an active role in activities at Gezi Park, and attempted to incite citizens against law enforcement by providing information on social media that did not align with reality. Consequently, it is understood that İsmail Saymaz has committed the crime of 'Aiding in the Attempt to Overthrow the Government of the Republic of Turkey' and has been apprehended and taken into custody, with search operations currently underway. Further information will be provided as developments occur. Investigations aimed at identifying all individuals found to have participated in the direction and organization of the Gezi Park events will continue to be deepened.”

HIS PASSPORT HAD BEEN SEIZED

İsmail Saymaz learned that a travel ban had been imposed on him while he was attempting to go abroad, and his passport was seized. Stating that he had traveled abroad and returned to Turkey five times in the last two months, Saymaz described the decision as 'intimidation against critical journalism.'
