Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and DEM Party Imrali Delegation member Sırrı Süreyya Önder was hospitalized last night after suffering a heart attack.
Doctors provided an update on Önder's health condition at 12:00 PM following a surgery that lasted approximately 12 hours.
Florence Nightingale Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Çavlan Çiftçi stated that Önder's aorta was replaced, a major surgical operation was performed, and there were contraction problems on the right side of his heart. The statement reiterated that Önder remains in intensive care and that his life is still at risk.
The statement said, "Mr. Sırrı Süreyya Önder was brought to our hospital's emergency unit last night by 112 ambulance teams, pulseless and intubated. Spontaneous circulation was achieved after 10 minutes of CPR in our unit. Our operation lasted 12 hours. A coronary bypass was performed on the right coronary artery, the aortic valve was replaced, and then the anastomosis procedures were completed. Unfortunately, this dissection also caused a small amount of tearing and perforation there. It is a surgery with extremely high mortality and extremely high vital risk. After the 12-hour surgery, our patient was taken to intensive care with ECMO support. He still remains in critical condition. We are most concerned about his neurological status because he has been unconscious since he arrived. We cannot realistically assess this due to the ECMO."
"HE STATED HIS COMPLAINT AND COLLAPSED"
Following Çiftçi, Cardiovascular Surgeon Prof. Dr. Ertan Sağbaş, who participated in the surgery, took the floor. Sağbaş said, "Aortic dissection is already one of the most advanced pathologies in cardiovascular surgery, but I would like to add something. The dissection had also regressed. The right coronary artery, one of the vessels feeding the heart, was trapped within the dissection. At the same time, there was a tear at the mouth of the coronary artery. This was likely one of the reasons why Mr. Sırrı collapsed after stating his complaint when the 112 emergency team arrived. A heart attack was also added to this. We corrected everything, but since the heart took a heavy blow, we let it rest for a while. We performed bleeding control. The surgery reached 12 hours with the ECMO support."
