The Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB) gathered in Ankara today to determine its new leadership.
While Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer, who has been acting as TBB President in place of the CHP's candidate, imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, became the candidate for TBB President, the People's Alliance nominated AKP Kahramanmaraş Mayor Fırat Görgel.
Following the opening speech by Vahap Seçer, Council President and Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Nuri Çavuşoğlu delivered a speech. Criticizing the operations targeting CHP-run municipalities, Çavuşoğlu drew attention to the presumption of innocence.
Emphasizing a change in government, Çavuşoğlu then began to read the letter sent by Ekrem İmamoğlu to the meeting.
A dispute arose when Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yusuf Alemdar began heckling while İmamoğlu's message was being read.
