On the M2 Hacıosman-Yenikapı metro line, services will be operated between Hacıosman and Vezneciler for a while.
Police, fire, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene upon notification.
While passengers were affected by the heavy smoke that filled the station due to the fire, the station has been closed to service.
STATEMENT FROM Metro İstanbul
The following statement was issued by Metro İstanbul:
"The Yenikapı station of the M2 Yenikapı-Hacıosman Metro Line has been temporarily closed to operations. Services are being provided between the Vezneciler and Hacıosman stations.
Ring services are being provided by free IETT buses between the Yenikapı and Vezneciler stations.
FIRE EXTINGUISHED
The fire, which was intervened by fire crews and metro station staff, has been extinguished.
As services at the station returned to normal, passengers began to be admitted through the turnstiles.
Passage is not permitted in the section where the malfunctioning escalator is located, as crews continue their work.
