Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel arrived at the Çağlayan Courthouse to support Victory Party leader Ümit Özdağ, who was detained on allegations of insulting AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
In his speech there, Özel used the following expressions regarding IYI Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu's 'unification' statement: "This is what Turkey needs. There is no possibility of fighting this evil separately. Today is not a day to fall apart, but a day to link arms and stand side by side."
Özel's statement is as follows:
"This is what Turkey needs. There is no possibility of fighting this evil separately.
We, as the CHP, are putting up a great fight. However, for whatever reason, the opposition falling apart from one another can create the environment the government is looking for.
Today is not a day to talk about divisions, but about unity. Today is not a day to fall apart, but a day to link arms and stand side by side.
Today is a day to take steps together to save the nation from those who have left it struggling.
From now on, we will be together. As long as no one believes in other lies intended to isolate each opposition party by falling for the Palace's games."
WHAT DID DERVİŞOĞLU SAY?
Reacting to the detention of Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, IYI Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu had stated, "Let everyone know well that nationalists, republicans, Atatürkists, democrats, and patriots will no longer compete. Let everyone be a witness that they will unite. This course of events will also lead to good things. None of the nightmare scenarios they want to construct will turn into reality."
