Breaking News: First statement from İmamoğlu after investigation! 'The truth has a habit of coming out one day'

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Ekrem İmamoğlu on the grounds that he targeted an expert witness or witnesses. Making a statement regarding the investigation launched against him, İmamoğlu said, "An investigation is being launched against me before I have even finished speaking. Responding to these unfair interventions is not influencing a fair trial, but on the contrary, it is defending the independence of the law. Launching investigations into media outlets that report on these unlawful acts and transactions, and into citizens who share them, is the height of censorship."

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is under investigation on charges of labeling an official expert or witness.

In a statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that Ekrem İmamoğlu, during a press conference he held today, openly targeted an expert or witness regarding investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The statement indicated that this action by İmamoğlu was taken with the intent to produce results in favor of the suspects in the investigation.

The statement made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office included the following:

"It has been determined that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, during a press conference held today, attempted to influence those performing judicial duties by openly targeting an individual who is one of the experts assigned to certain investigations and public cases conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, with the aim of ensuring a decision in favor of the investigation suspects, and by also disclosing their name for this purpose; therefore, an ex officio investigation has been initiated in accordance with Articles 277 and 288 of the Turkish Penal Code. Furthermore, instructions have been given to the Istanbul Police Department to identify those who make such statements in written and visual media and to initiate investigations against them."

Additionally, it was stated that by disclosing the name of the person he targeted, İmamoğlu attempted to influence those performing judicial duties. For this reason, it was reported that an ex officio investigation was launched in accordance with Articles 277 and 288 of the Turkish Penal Code.

FIRST STATEMENT FROM İMAMOĞLU

IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made his first statement following the investigation launched against him.

"THE TRUTH HAS A HABIT OF COMING OUT ONE DAY"

İmamoğlu made the following statements in a post on his X account:

"We will share every illegality and every injustice done to us with the Turkish Nation. We will not take anyone's rights, and we will not let our rights be taken. An investigation is being launched against me before I have even finished speaking. Responding to these unfair interventions is not influencing a fair trial, but on the contrary, it is defending the independence of the law. I also expect a lightning-fast investigation into the unlawful acts I have explained with documents. Launching investigations into media outlets that report on these unlawful acts and transactions, and into citizens who share them, is the height of censorship.
