Following the removal of CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik by court order, Gürsel Tekin was appointed as the trustee in his place.
After Tekin announced that he would go to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency on Monday, September 8, at 12:00, CHP members issued a call to gather at the party building. While the Governor's Office issued a 3-day ban on demonstrations in Istanbul, the roads leading to the party building were closed by the police.
As the police blockade of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency continues, Gürsel Tekin announced that he would go to the CHP provincial building around 12:30-13:00.
According to Sözcü TV, Tekin said, "I called the Ministry of Interior, and they said they would show the necessary sensitivity. Real CHP members have no problem with us; we are not the ones creating the problem. I wish our friends had shown this strength when they were being arrested."
