Breaking News: İmamoğlu reacts to attack on Özel! 'Where those who govern the country talk about 'extermination'...'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently detained at Silivri Prison, has reacted to the attack on CHP leader Özgür Özel in front of the AKM.

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel was attacked as he was leaving the AKM following a ceremony held for the late DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder.

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that the perpetrator, identified as S.T., has been taken into custody.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently detained at Silivri Prison, issued a statement following the physical attack on Özel.

Condemning the attack, İmamoğlu demanded that the assailant and all their connections be uncovered.

İmamoğlu's statement is as follows:

"I condemn the heinous attack on our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel.

I demand that the assailant and all their connections be uncovered immediately.

Where those who govern the country talk about 'extermination' in such an unconscious manner, it emboldens such ignorant scoundrels and provocateurs.

Get well soon, Mr. Chairman."
