Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained on March 19, has been arrested as part of the 'corruption' investigation launched against him.

Regarding the 'terrorism' accusation against İmamoğlu, it was decided that there were no grounds for arrest.

The following statement was issued by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office:

"Within the scope of the investigations conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the duty Magistrate Judge has ruled:

Regarding the financial investigation, suspect Ekrem İmamoğlu is to be arrested for the crimes of establishing and managing a criminal organization, accepting bribes, extortion, unlawfully recording personal data, and bid-rigging.

Regarding the suspect Ekrem İmamoğlu, while there is strong suspicion of the crime of aiding an armed terrorist organization, the request for arrest on this charge has been denied at this stage as he has already been ordered to be arrested for financial crimes."
