The Istanbul 7th Criminal Court of Peace has ordered the arrest of CHP Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer on charges of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization."
The Ministry of Interior has appointed a trustee to the Esenyurt Municipality.
In a statement released by the Ministry, it was stated that Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy has been appointed.

The Ministry's statement is as follows:
"Our Press Statement regarding the Esenyurt Mayoralty:
Within the scope of the investigation numbered 2024/162302 conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Esenyurt Mayor suspect Ahmet ÖZER, who was arrested by the court for the crime of “Being a Member of the PKK/KCK Armed Terrorist Organization”;
Has been removed from office as a temporary measure by the Ministry of Interior in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393.
In accordance with Articles 45 and 46 of the Municipal Law No. 5393, Istanbul Deputy Governor Can AKSOY has been assigned by the Istanbul Governorship as the Acting Mayor of Esenyurt.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was detained at his home yesterday morning.
In the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terror and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau to identify the members and activities of the terrorist organization PKK/KCK, it was determined that Özer, for whom a detention warrant was issued, committed the alleged crime by establishing an organic bond with organization leaders in an intense and continuous manner, based on transcripts of communications obtained through wiretapping measures, physical surveillance reports, and bank account records.
Upon the request of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a search warrant was issued by the Istanbul Duty Criminal Court of Peace.
Following his statement at the prosecutor's office, Özer was referred to the duty criminal court of peace with a request for his arrest on charges of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization."
Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was subsequently arrested by the court he was brought before on charges of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization."
