Following a landslide that occurred on Tulumba Street in the Asma neighborhood due to heavy rainfall yesterday (Saturday, December 9) in Zonguldak, 82-year-old Perihan Çakar and her 51-year-old son, Sait Çakar, were trapped under the rubble.
Search efforts, which were paused overnight, resumed at daybreak.
AFAD announced that the lifeless bodies of the two individuals trapped under the rubble in the Zonguldak landslide disaster have been recovered.
The statement released by AFAD included the following:
"On December 9, 2023, a two-story house in the Asma neighborhood of Zonguldak's central district collapsed due to a landslide, and two of our citizens
were trapped under the rubble.
As a result of search and rescue operations, the lifeless bodies of our two citizens have been recovered.
We wish God's mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives and extend our condolences to their families and loved ones."
We express our gratitude on behalf of our nation to all our teams who worked with great effort and dedication."
