Breaking News... Muğla Governor announces: Loss of life in earthquake off the coast of Marmaris!

Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık reported that 69 citizens were affected by the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Marmaris, and that a 14-year-old youth who suffered a panic attack passed away. Akbıyık stated, "A total of 55 citizens have applied to hospitals, with 10 citizens arriving by ambulance and 45 as outpatients. 14 citizens did not accept transfer to a hospital and were treated on-site. A 14-year-old child brought to the hospital after suffering a panic attack during the earthquake in our Fethiye district could not be saved despite all interventions."

AFAD reported that a 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred at 02:17 off the coast of the Marmaris district of Muğla.

The earthquake, which was 10.43 kilometers from Marmaris, was recorded at a depth of 67.91 kilometers.

Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık stated that 69 citizens were affected by the earthquake and that a 14-year-old youth who suffered a panic attack in the Fethiye district lost their life.

Stating that teams have begun field scanning work following the earthquake, Akbıyık noted the following:

"So far, 69 of our citizens have been affected by the earthquake. A total of 55 citizens have applied to hospitals, with 10 citizens arriving by ambulance and 45 as outpatients. 14 citizens did not accept transfer to a hospital and were treated on-site. 1 patient has been admitted. The examination and treatment of 46 patients continue in the emergency department. 8 patients have been discharged. A 14-year-old child brought to the hospital after suffering a panic attack during the earthquake in our Fethiye district could not be saved despite all interventions."

Reporting that there were no negative impacts affecting general life in the city regarding energy supply, infrastructure, natural gas supply, drinking water, or sewage infrastructure following the earthquake, Akbıyık stated that there was no destruction in residential buildings across the city.

Akbıyık indicated that field work in the region is ongoing.

MINISTER YERLİKAYA ALSO MADE A STATEMENT

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya also made a statement on his social media account following the earthquake.

Yerlikaya noted the following:

"A 5.8 magnitude earthquake has occurred in Muğla, Marmaris. Regarding the earthquake, which was also felt in surrounding provinces, all teams from AFAD and our relevant institutions are continuing field scans under the coordination of our Governor.

According to initial assessments, there is no destruction in residential buildings across the city.

In the earthquake, a 14-year-old girl named Afranur Günlü was taken to the hospital in Fethiye due to a panic attack, but unfortunately, she lost her life despite all interventions.

Out of 69 citizens who were affected by panic or jumping from heights in Muğla and its districts, 14 were treated on-site. 8 people were treated as outpatients and discharged. The examination and treatment of 46 of our citizens continue in the emergency department.

I pray for God's mercy upon our child Afranur who lost her life and extend my condolences to her relatives. I offer my best wishes for a speedy recovery to our citizens affected by the earthquake.
