Contacts with Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, continue as part of the second resolution process, referred to as a Terror-Free Turkey.

The DEM Party Imralı Delegation traveled to Imralı Island yesterday (September 13) and held a meeting with Öcalan.

The delegation issued a written statement regarding the content of the meeting.

The statement from the DEM Party Imralı Delegation is as follows:

"To the Press and the Public,

As the DEM Party Imralı Delegation, we held a meeting with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan on Imralı Island on September 13, 2026.

The meeting addressed the current situation in Turkey, the development of a democratic solution and lasting peace, the concrete steps that need to be taken to advance the process, and regional developments.

The assessments made by Mr. Abdullah Öcalan to be conveyed to the public are summarized as follows:

“The Peace and Democratic Society Process is at a stage that requires historical responsibilities to be fulfilled without delay. In the period following the enactment of the law, it is of great importance that mutual practical steps are taken within the framework of this responsibility and that the committees begin to work actively.

“My goal is the realization of peace and politicization. The counterpart to peace corresponds to laying down arms, and the counterpart to politicization corresponds to democratic politics and a democratic society.

“Turkey has a historical opportunity before it. I expect everyone and every segment of society to act with this awareness to lead this to a lasting peace and a democratic solution, and I believe they will. Ensuring that the will for peace does not remain in a vacuum and securing it with concrete legal and political regulations is a duty that cannot be postponed.

“The Peace and Democratic Society Process also aims for all peoples and faiths in the Middle East to live together in peace, freely and equally. Developments in the region clearly show that the process operates on sensitive balances, and these directly affect the process. Therefore, in order to neutralize potential provocations, addressing the problems in the region on the basis of dialogue and negotiation must be essential. The events taking place in Rojava should also be evaluated within this framework.”

As the DEM Party Imralı Delegation, we would like to emphasize once again that Mr. Öcalan's fundamental approach is to make peace permanent, strengthen democratic politics, and democratize Turkey.

The path to peace is open. Now is the time to demonstrate the political will and practice to advance this path.

Respectfully,

DEM Party Imralı Delegation
