In the investigation conducted into allegations that infants were referred to contracted hospitals to generate illicit profits and that negligence led to deaths, the 'Newborn Gang' case has seen a new development.
It has been learned that trustees have been appointed to the private hospitals whose operations were suspended as part of the investigation. Investigations revealed that gang members had unnecessarily referred infants and financially victimized their families.
ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT WILL BE HANDLED BY TRUSTEES
While the judicial process regarding the incident continues, the financial and administrative management of the closed hospitals will now be carried out by trustees.
Authorities announced that efforts to clarify all aspects of the incident are ongoing and that everyone found to be negligent will be brought to justice. It was reported that the investigation is continuing meticulously to prevent further infant deaths and victimization.
This notable development was announced by journalist Emrullah Erdinç.
Erdinç shared the following on his social media account:
—MASAK has begun examining the accounts of the healthcare institutions mentioned in the investigation. It was determined that the operating licenses of the private healthcare facilities and companies involved in the investigation were revoked by the Ministry of Health, leading to the cessation of hospital operations and the transfer of patients to other facilities. This created a risk of spoilage for medical supplies such as drugs, and consequently, a risk of public loss and victimization of citizens. To prevent these negative outcomes, it was concluded that the hospitals could only be returned to operation by being managed by the State through trustees, utilizing the 'Appointment of Trustees for Company Management' mechanism regulated under Article 133 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
—In this context, the request for the appointment of trustees for company management was submitted to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on November 27, 2024.
With the trustee request submitted to and accepted by the Büyükçekmece 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace:
