Breaking News... New message from PKK terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan read

It had been announced that a new message from Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, would be shared on the anniversary of his 'Call for Peace and a Democratic Society' made on February 27, 2025, during the second reconciliation process—architected by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli and dubbed 'Terror-Free Turkey' by the government—which is being conducted with the DEM Party and Öcalan.

The DEM Party had announced that Öcalan's message would be read at the Yılmaz Güney Stage in Ankara on Friday, February 27, at 11:00 AM.

The meeting began with opening speeches by DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan.

"WE STAND BEHIND THE FEBRUARY 27 CALL TO THE END"

In her speech, Tülay Hatimoğulları said, "Democratic integration is not just about the Kurds recognizing it, but the democratization of Turkey as a whole. We stand behind the call Mr. Öcalan made last year on February 27 until the end. We promise once again that we will realize this magnificent offer of peace and brotherhood, and that we will carry out the struggle for it to the end."

BAKIRHAN: THE RESPONSIBILITY NOW LIES WITH THE STATE AND THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH

Speaking afterward, Tuncer Bakırhan delivered the message: "Before February 27, Turkey was in a state of great hopelessness. With the call, we have come to the threshold of a new era. True peace cannot be achieved through unilateral steps; therefore, the state must also be part of a process. The responsibility now lies with the state and the executive branch."

The Turkish version of the message was read by Pervin Buldan, a member of the Imralı delegation, and the Kurdish version was read by Veysi Aktaş, who was released from Imralı Prison in July. The message was also provided to the press in English and Arabic.

Here is the message from terrorist leader Öcalan:

"Our February 27, 2025 call is a declaration that weapons become meaningless where democratic politics are implemented, and a proclamation that the choice has been clearly made in favor of politics; it is a principle of integrity. We have succeeded in overcoming the period of negative rebellion, fundamentally through a unilateral will and practice. The process we have left behind has proven our negotiation ability and strength to ensure the transition from a politics of violence and division to democratic politics and integration. Our calls, conferences, and congresses were aimed at this purpose. The organization's decisions to dissolve and end the strategy of armed struggle have demonstrated not only officially and de facto, but also mentally, a purification from violence and a preference for politics. This was also a declaration of mental reconciliation with the Republic.

Over the past year, I find the will of Mr. Erdoğan, the call of Mr. Bahçeli, the contribution of Mr. Özel, and the efforts of all other political, social, and civil individuals and institutions that have contributed positively to the process to be valuable. And I especially remember our friend Sırrı Süreyya once again with great respect and longing.

There is no Turk without a Kurd, and no Kurd without a Turk. This dialectic of relationship has a historical uniqueness. The foundational texts during the founding process of the Republic expressed the unity of Turks and Kurds. Our February 27 call is an attempt to revive this spirit of unity and a demand for a Democratic Republic. We aimed to break the mechanics of feeding on blood and conflict. Acting according to short-term, narrow political interests instead of seeing the historicity, seriousness, and risks that the issue can produce weakens us all. Trying to make denial and rebellion permanent is trying to make the greatest irregularity the rule. We are removing the obstacles to the brotherhood that has been sought to be reversed in the last two centuries, and we are fulfilling the requirements of the law of brotherhood. We want to discuss how to come together and how to live together.

Now we must move from the negative phase to the positive construction phase. A door is opening to a new period and strategy of politics. We aim to close the period of violence-based politics and open a process based on democratic society and law, and we invite every segment to create opportunities and take responsibility in this direction.

Democratic society, democratic consensus, and integration are the building blocks of the mentality of the positive era. The positive phase excludes methods of struggle based on force and violence. The goal in positive construction is not to seize any institution or structure, but for every individual in society to reach the responsibility to take part in social construction. The goal is to carry out the construction together with society and within society. Oppressed segments, ethnic groups, and religious and cultural groups can claim their own creations through an uninterrupted and organized democratic struggle. It is important for the state to be sensitive to democratic transformation in this process.

Democratic integration is at least as important as the beginning of the Republic. It is a call that contains existence and richness in terms of meaning, future, and power, just as much as it does. At its core is the democratic society model. It is an alternative to divisive or, conversely, assimilationist methods. The transition to democratic integration requires peace laws. A democratic societal solution envisions the establishment of an architecture and a legal framework in political, social, economic, and cultural dimensions.

The reason for many of the problems and crises experienced today is the absence of a democratic law. We base our solution on a law framed by democratic politics. We need an approach that will provide space for a democratic society, provide space for democracy, and establish strong legal guarantees for this.

The relationship of citizenship should be established based on the bond with the state, not through belonging to a nation. We base our approach on a free citizenship that is based on being free in one's religion, nationality, and thought. Just as religion and language cannot be imposed, nationality should not be either. A constitutional citizenship relationship that is within democratic boundaries and based on the integrity of the state includes the right to freely express and organize one's religious, ideological, identity-based, and national existence.

Today, no system of thought can survive without basing itself on democracy. Ups and downs, tensions, and crises are temporary; democracy is what will be permanent sooner or later. Our call aims to find a solution to the problem of living together and the state of crisis it produces, not only in Turkey but also in the Middle East. We defend the rights of all those who have been wronged to exist and to express themselves freely.

Women are among the leading social forces that no society or state can sustain itself without considering. Today, domestic violence, femicides, and patriarchal oppression are all current projections of the historical attack that began with the enslavement of women. For this reason, women are the most freedom-loving part and the driving force of democratic integration.

The language of the era cannot be an imperious and authoritarian language. We must base our approach on giving the other party the opportunity to express themselves correctly, to listen correctly, and to express their own truths as well. The realization of all these matters requires an advanced common mind based on mutual respect.
