Breaking News: New statement from Özgür Özel: 'We will not leave here, I don't know how long we can hold out'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel shared a video on his social media account following the police intervention that began at his party's headquarters.

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel announced in a video shared on his social media account that they will not leave the CHP Headquarters.

 

 

Özel stated, "If they tear us out of here, we will continue our march to power in the squares."

Özel's statement is as follows:

“We are in the father's hearth, we are at the Headquarters of the Republican People's Party. We are in the office entrusted by Atatürk. We are under attack. Our crime is making the party the leading party after 47 years. Our crime is defeating the AK Party. Our crime is entering an intra-party race in the Republican People's Party and, after the loss in the last elections, saying ‘Change’ against those resisting a change in power, and with that will for change, making our party the leader together with the youth, women, and everyone who wants change,” he said. Özel continued:

“THERE IS A NULL AND VOID ALLIANCE WITH JUDICIAL ARMS”

“There is an alliance between those who cannot digest the two results, those who cannot digest our success in the party, and those who cannot digest our March 31 election success. In other words, there is a null and void alliance between the AK Party and its judicial arms. Now, as if taking that unlawful decision wasn't enough, they have shown up at our door. First, at 07:00 in the morning, they showed up at our door with a group whose sole job is to fight, where, except for a few deputies walking in front, those walking behind were not CHP members. The youth repelled them. They came back, they came in greater numbers. The doors were closed, the resistance began. Now they have come with the police. They want to enter the building, enter with gas, enter with batons, enter with the police, and destroy this building. They want to seize this building. We will not leave here. I don't know how long we can hold out. After all, we are not in a position to raise a hand against the state's police. But we said, ‘No one but the delegates can remove us from these seats that the delegates have placed us in.’”

“IF THEY THROW US OUT OF HERE, WE ARE IN THE SQUARES”

“They can remove us, they can tear us out, they can throw us out onto the street. But we did not make the party the leading party by sitting in this building anyway. Elections are not won by sitting in this building. Someone knows this best. Elections are won on the street, in the squares. From now on, we will resist here to the end, and if they tear us out of here, we will continue our march to power in the squares. Let no one forget, when this party was founded, it had no headquarters. It was first founded on battlefields, in tents. Then the Republican People's Party accepted a room in the First Parliament as its headquarters. One room is enough for us, a tent is enough for us, our nation is enough for us. But what these coup plotters are doing to our nation is enough. I invite our nation and those who love us to react to this; to react with words, to react on social media, for those who can come to come, to show solidarity, to protect our provincial headquarters all over Turkey, and to protect our Headquarters. We will fight to the end, and in the end, no matter what happens, they may take our bodies, but they will not be able to take our struggle.”
