The Governor's Office had previously issued a protest ban in İzmir, where protest demonstrations have been ongoing against the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is preparing to be the CHP's presidential candidate.
The İzmir Governor's Office has decided to extend the protest ban, which was set to expire tonight. According to the new decision, the ban will end on the night of March 29, 2025.
The statement issued by the Governor's Office included the following remarks:
With the decision taken by our Governor's Office, all kinds of meetings, demonstration marches, and press statements were banned throughout our province for a period of (5 days) from 10:00 on 21.03.2025 to 23:59 on 25.03.2025.
However, it has been evaluated that it would be appropriate to continue the existing measures due to the possibility of actions that would disturb the peace and tranquility in our province.
For this reason, in accordance with the decision taken by our Governor's Office as required by the relevant legislation, all kinds of meetings, demonstration marches, and press statements have been banned throughout the province for a period of 4 (four) days from 00:00 on 26.03.2025 to 23:59 on 29.03.2025, in order to maintain public order and prevent potential provocative actions.
