Breaking News: Report of a helicopter crash in Giresun! First statement from the Governor's Office

A report claiming that a helicopter, which was reportedly working on high-voltage power lines, had crashed in the Piraziz district of Giresun has put emergency teams on alert. While Mayor Mahmut Esat Ayyıldız stated that the report has not yet been confirmed, the Governor's Office announced that no evidence or traces have been found during the searches conducted in the area so far.

A search operation has been launched in the area following a report that a helicopter, which was reportedly working on high-voltage power lines, had crashed in the Piraziz district of Giresun. 

The report was received around 13:00 from the vicinity of Deregözü Village in the Piraziz district. Following the report, health, gendarmerie, police, AFAD, and fire department teams were dispatched to the area.

MAYOR: THE REPORT HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED

Piraziz Mayor Mahmut Esat Ayyıldız, in a statement to A Haber, said that the report regarding the helicopter crash has not yet been confirmed. Ayyıldız indicated that the report might be unfounded.

It was also learned that Giresun Governor Mustafa Koç is on his way to the region following the incident.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

The Giresun Governor's Office announced in a statement that a report was received around 13:00 regarding a helicopter crash in the vicinity of Deregözü Village in the Piraziz district.

The statement noted that teams were dispatched to the area following the report, and that no findings or traces have been encountered in the work carried out so far.

The Governor's Office announced that search and scanning efforts to verify the report are ongoing and that developments will be shared with the public.

 

The statement from the Governor's Office is as follows:

"On Saturday, August 22, 2026, around 13:00, a report was received that an aircraft, believed to be an aerial vehicle, had crashed in the vicinity of Deregözü Village in our province's Piraziz district.

Following the receipt of the report, teams were dispatched to the area to confirm the incident and ensure necessary checks.

The incident is being monitored by our health, gendarmerie, police, AFAD, and fire department teams. No findings or traces have been encountered in the work carried out so far.

Search and scanning efforts to verify the report are ongoing, and developments will be shared with the public.

Respectfully announced to the public"
