WHEN WAS THE FIRST INVESTIGATION INTO THE NEWBORN GANG OPENED?

In his statement, Yerlikaya reported that an investigation into the criminal organization was launched on May 21, 2023, following complaints to CİMER and a report from the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate.

Yerlikaya recalled that 47 suspects were apprehended in two separate operations conducted as a result of work carried out since June 20, 2023, and announced that the judicial process for the 22 individuals currently in custody is ongoing.

The full text of Yerlikaya's statement is as follows:

Regarding the criminal organization known in the public eye as the 'Newborn Baby Gang,' an investigation was launched on May 21, 2023, under the coordination of our Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, following applications made to CİMER and a report from the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate.

Our Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Branch conducted a comprehensive project-based study starting from June 20, 2023, and the suspects were apprehended and taken into custody in two separate operations.

An indictment was prepared on October 16, 2024, against 47 suspects, and the judicial process regarding these suspects, 22 of whom are in custody, is ongoing.

As a father, I am deeply saddened. I share the sorrow of our people most profoundly.

I will follow this matter closely to ensure that these heartless individuals, who disregarded the lives of our heaven-scented babies for illicit gain, receive the punishment they deserve.
