Breaking News... Statement from the Ministry of National Defense on Syria and Iran

The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) responded to questions from the press regarding the agenda following the weekly press briefing held at the Harmony Band Command. Syria, Iran, the Aegean Sea, and Somalia were the prominent topics in the statements.

In the response given to a question regarding the latest situation in Syria at the meeting, it was stated that the SDF has not complied with the March 10 and January 18 agreements, which are considered critical for ensuring lasting stability. The Ministry reported that the ceasefire, which was extended for 15 days, continues to be violated by the SDF's harassment, and that this situation is negatively affecting the integration process.

“DEVELOPMENTS ON THE GROUND ARE BEING CLOSELY MONITORED”

In the assessment made by the MSB, it was conveyed that the developments in Syria are being closely monitored on the ground, and that all necessary measures have been taken for the units, personnel, and border security in the region. While it was stated that the Syrian government's opening of a humanitarian aid corridor is welcomed, it was expressed that Turkey will continue its support for counter-terrorism and the enhancement of defense capacity based on the unity and territorial integrity of Syria, in line with the “One State, One Army” principle.

“NEW TENSION IS NOT DESIRED”

Responding to a question regarding the latest developments in Iran, the Ministry stated that Turkey does not want new tensions and conflicts to occur in the region. The statement emphasized that efforts to end all conflicts and ensure peace and stability in the region are continuing, and that all necessary measures are being taken in coordination with the relevant state institutions against possible negative developments.

NAVTEX STATEMENT ON THE AEGEAN SEA

In the assessment regarding the NAVTEX notices issued in the Aegean Sea, it was stated that the navigational warnings, which serve as technical objections to Greece's activities contrary to international law, were not issued for two years as claimed in the Greek press, but were issued indefinitely.

In the Ministry's statement, it was noted that the issued NAVTEX notices are based on navigational safety, and that it was emphasized that all research activities to be conducted in areas covering the continental shelf in the Aegean Sea must be coordinated with Turkey. It was stated that military activities that could endanger navigational safety in regions including the territorial waters of islands with Non-Military Status are contrary to international treaties.

TURKEY'S MILITARY SUPPORT IN SOMALIA

In the assessment regarding Somalia, it was conveyed that the Somali security forces trained by Turkey are effectively carrying out counter-terrorism activities in their own areas of responsibility. The MSB reported that the Somali-Turkish Task Force and the Air Element Command stationed in Somalia continue to contribute to Somalia's counter-terrorism capacity through military aid, training, and advisory activities.
