The Council of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB), which gathered at a hotel in Ankara, met to determine the presidency and other administrative positions. In addition to the president and governing bodies, members of the executive committee and specialized commissions were also elected. The opening of the Council began with a speech by TBB Deputy President and Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer.
TENSION OCCURRED BEFORE THE ELECTION
During the session of the Council, Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Bülent Nuri Çavuşoğlu's attempt to read a letter from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently suspended from duty, raised tensions in the hall. A brief scuffle broke out as some participants moved toward the podium.
Following the commotion in the hall, the regular council meeting was adjourned, and the meeting hall was temporarily cleared. Order was restored shortly thereafter, and it was announced that the session would continue after the break.
SEÇER BECAME THE NEW PRESIDENT
Following the completion of the elections, which continued in the shadow of the tension, Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer was elected as the new president of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye.
