In the corruption investigation targeting the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, 2 people, including Hür Ağbaba, the brother of Veli Ağbaba, have been detained. It was determined that the suspects acted in connection with the imprisoned Egeşehir General Manager Süleyman Ekinci.

New detentions have occurred in the corruption investigation conducted into the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. Within the scope of the investigation, 2 people, including Hür Ağbaba, the brother of CHP Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba, were detained in Diyarbakır and Malatya.
The prosecutor's office alleged that "the two detained individuals acted in contact with the previously arrested Egeşehir General Manager Süleyman Ekinci."
On the other hand, a summary of proceedings (fezleke) had been prepared against Veli Ağbaba one day earlier on allegations of bribery.
HOW DID THE INVESTIGATION BEGIN?
The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation on July 1, 2025, following allegations of corruption through subcontractor companies at İZBETON AŞ, a subsidiary of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality.
In line with Court of Accounts reports, civil inspector reports, and expert examinations, detention warrants were issued for 157 suspects on charges of "rigging a tender," "rigging the performance of an obligation," and "qualified fraud."
SOYER AND ASLANOĞLU HAD ALSO BEEN ARRESTED
Within the scope of the operation, 139 suspects, including former İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer and CHP İzmir Provincial Chair Şenol Aslanoğlu, had been apprehended.
While 60 people, including Soyer and Aslanoğlu, were arrested after being referred to the criminal judgeship of peace, 58 suspects were released under judicial control conditions. Of the other suspects, 20 were released from the police station and one by the prosecutor's office.
While two separate indictments prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office were submitted to the İzmir Criminal Court of First Instance, an objection filed regarding 50 detainees released within the scope of the investigation was also rejected.
