Breaking News: Verdict in the Baby Sıla case! 2 people acquitted

The verdict has been announced in the trial regarding the death of 2-year-old Sıla Yeniçeri, who lost her life as a result of sexual abuse and violence in the Malkara district of Tekirdağ.

The 3rd hearing of the trial regarding the death of Sıla Yeniçeri as a result of sexual abuse and violence began at 9:30 AM at the Tekirdağ 2nd High Criminal Court.

The verdict has been announced in the shameful case that dominated Turkey's agenda.

The mother was sentenced to 27 years and 9 months in prison for 3 separate crimes. Among the children dragged into crime, G.K. was sentenced to 7 years for sexual abuse, and K.A. was sentenced to 7 years for sexual abuse and 7 years for homicide, totaling 14 years in prison. The other defendants, Kani A. and Sanlı Ö., were acquitted.

REQUESTED SENTENCES

For the defendants in the case, a prison sentence of 67 years had been requested for Sıla's mother, Bakiye Yeniçeri (30), for "intentional killing by omission"; 28 years and 6 months for neighbor Kani A. (33); and 1 year and 6 months for Sanlı Ö. (58) for "failure to report a crime."

For the children dragged into crime, a total of 66 years had been requested for G.K. (15), and 48 years plus an aggravated life sentence for "intentional killing" for K.A. (14).

CONCEALED EVIDENCE OF THE CRIME

The indictment stated that mother Bakiye Yeniçeri bore responsibility as she was responsible for the care and protection of her child but left Sıla in an environment where she could be subjected to violence and sexual abuse, concealed evidence of the crime by throwing a bloody diaper in the trash, and failed to notify the authorities. It was stated that Kani A.'s son K.A. and the neighbor's child G.K. were involved in the abuse and violence incidents.

ALLEGATION OF CONCEALING THE CRIME DESPITE KNOWLEDGE

Sanlı Ö. is accused of failing to report to the authorities despite knowing that Baby Sıla was being subjected to sexual abuse and violence. It is emphasized that Sanlı Ö.'s responsibility increased due to her failure to make the necessary inquiries regarding the incident.

DIED DUE TO BRAIN HEMORRHAGE

The Forensic Medicine report states that Sıla Yeniçeri's death was due to a brain hemorrhage that developed as a result of a blow to the head. Furthermore, it is stated that there were signs of trauma in Baby Sıla's anal region.
