Breaking News... Verdict reached in Kartalkaya case: 8 people sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment

The verdict has been announced in the case regarding the fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya, which resulted in the loss of 78 lives. Eight defendants, including hotel owner Halit Ergül, were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment.

The fire that occurred in 2023 at the Grand Kartal Hotel, located in the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Center, led to the deaths of 78 people, 36 of whom were children.

Following the tragedy, in which 137 people were also injured, the initiated lawsuit turned into a legal process involving 32 defendants. The defendants, including hotel owners, municipal officials, and other employees, faced serious charges.

AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT SENTENCES

The verdicts were announced during the third hearing held after the fire. Hotel owner Halit Ergül, Emine Ergül, Elif Aras, Ceyda Hacıbekiroğlu, Zeki Yılmaz, Ahmet Demir, Emir Aras, and Sedat Gülener were accused of causing the deaths of 34 children. These defendants were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment.

THEY CAUSED THE DEATHS OF 44 PEOPLE

The defendants were also sentenced to life imprisonment for the 44 people who lost their lives due to the fire. It was stated that no reductions were applied to the sentences, and the defendants' sentences have been finalized.
