The Supreme Election Council (YSK) has announced that there is no legal obstacle to holding the Republican People's Party (CHP) 39th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress, which is scheduled for tomorrow.
COURT HAD REQUESTED SUSPENSION
The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance had requested the suspension of the CHP congress in a letter sent to the Istanbul Governorship and the Sarıyer 1st District Election Board, citing non-compliance with a court ruling.
YSK CONVENED AND REACHED A DECISION
Following this request, the Sarıyer 1st District Election Board sought an opinion from the YSK. In response, the YSK held an extraordinary meeting today at 14:00. After the meeting, which lasted approximately 20 minutes, YSK Deputy Chairman Ekrem Özübek shared the details of the decision.
In his statement, Özübek said, “It has been decided that the congress process, which began in accordance with procedure, cannot be suspended by district election boards. A decision has been made for the congress to continue.”
