Bribery investigation at an Istanbul hospital: 11 healthcare workers in custody

In an investigation launched following serious allegations at the Yedikule Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul, it was revealed that money was demanded under the guise of "donations" in exchange for moving up the surgery dates of some patients.
The allegations were reported to the prosecutor's office following complaints made to the hospital's chief physician's office. Subsequently, a comprehensive investigation was initiated under the instructions of the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Organized Crime Investigation Bureau.
PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE REACHED EVIDENCE REGARDING "KNIFE MONEY"
As a result of examinations and technical surveillance, it was determined that some healthcare workers were receiving money from patients' relatives under the guise of "donations," and that this money was used to move up surgery queues. The prosecutor's office, evaluating this situation as "knife money" (bıçak parası), pressed the button for the operation.
PROFESSOR AND ASSOCIATE PROFESSORS IN CUSTODY
Within the scope of the operation, a total of 11 people, including Prof. Dr. M.M., Assoc. Prof. Dr. V.E., and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Y.S. working in the Chest Diseases department, were taken into custody. The detained suspects were referred to the courthouse today following their procedures at the police station.
