Bülent Arınç names the party responsible for the Bolu fire tragedy: 'Ministry of Tourism'

Former Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Bülent Arınç made striking statements regarding the fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya, which resulted in the deaths of 78 citizens.

As the tragic fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel, which claimed the lives of many, remains a top issue on Turkey's agenda, former TBMM Speaker Bülent Arınç made significant remarks regarding the incident. Bülent Arınç declared that the responsibility lies with the Ministry of Tourism.

Stating that fire safety measures were inadequate and that negligence led to serious consequences, Arınç said, "The party responsible for this incident is the Ministry of Tourism. A lack of oversight and the failure to take necessary precautions paved the way for this tragedy." Arınç further emphasized that deterrent penalties must be implemented to prevent similar disasters from recurring.

LISTED THE DEFICIENCIES

Speaking about the incident, Arınç expressed that the danger was magnified because the fire occurred in a hotel with significant wooden construction. Highlighting points such as the inadequacy of fire escapes and the lack of staff training, Arınç stated, "Those responsible for this must be punished. This must be clearly stated to the public, and the necessary steps must be taken to ensure such events do not happen again."

"WE MUST NOT ALLOW THIS"

In his statements regarding the Grand Kartal Hotel fire in Bolu Kartalkaya, Bülent Arınç referenced Hannah Arendt's concept of the "Banality of Evil" while evaluating the tragedy. Arınç warned that unless necessary precautions are taken, such events could become normalized and accepted within society.

Arınç remarked, "There is a book called 'The Banality of Evil'; these things have started to become mundane. Unfortunately, in the end, a few people will be put on trial and given sentences, but no one will learn a lesson from this event. Unless this mindset changes, these types of tragedies will repeat themselves."

"RESPONSIBILITY LIES WITH THE MINISTRY"

Drawing attention to the mutual accusations among officials following the incident, Arınç stated that the hotel is located in an area under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Tourism and that municipalities do not have authority in this matter. "Municipalities say 'it is not in our jurisdiction,' while the Ministry has failed to conduct sufficient inspections. Such debates only deepen the citizens' pain," he said.
