Artist Bülent Ersoy has issued a statement following an argument with an audience member during her concert in the Kuşadası district of Aydın on the evening of August 23. Ersoy, who reportedly appeared on stage approximately 1.5 hours late, had made headlines due to her sharp response to an audience member who shouted, “What time is it?”
In her statement, Ersoy explained that she had been suffering from a serious health issue before the concert but went on stage anyway so as not to leave her audience waiting. The famous artist stated, “Due to my severe illness, I went on stage trembling, having received 3 bags of IV fluids and with four doctors and two nurses standing by me.”
“IT IS NOT DISRESPECT,” SHE SAID
Asserting that an announcement had been made at the concert venue regarding her delay due to her health condition, Ersoy said she did not view the incident merely as a “you’re late” argument. Ersoy said, “On this night where three thousand people came to watch me because they value me, is my response to a person who said to me—someone who took all health risks to go on stage so they wouldn't be disappointed—‘Do you realize what time it is?’ not a case of putting someone who doesn't know their place in their place, rather than disrespect?”
Stating that the producer had offered to postpone the concert, Ersoy noted that she insisted on performing regardless. The artist, who mentioned that she had an IV line in her arm, that a medical team was waiting backstage, and that an ambulance was present in front of the Altın Güvercin Amphitheater, added, “If I get sick again, I will go on stage again.”
Ersoy also argued that some headlines in the press failed to reflect the context of the event. She said the incident should be evaluated as an artist who was delayed due to health issues and went on stage despite them, responding to a loud reaction directed at her.
RESPONSE TO PLAYBACK ALLEGATIONS
Bülent Ersoy also clarified the allegations that she used playback during the concert. Stating that she performed the song “Yüzünü Göremem” via playback upon the insistence of the audience, Ersoy cited the fact that the orchestra had not rehearsed the piece as the reason.
Noting that she always prefers to sing live, Ersoy expressed that she was also uncomfortable with the playback footage. The artist argued that these recordings were the answer to the allegations, pointing out that she performed the song “Doğum Günüm” live without a microphone in the concert recordings.
