Following the March 31 General Local Elections, CHP's Burcu Köksal became the new mayor of Afyonkarahisar Municipality.
Köksal had the municipality's debt printed on a banner and hung on the municipal building. Subsequently, making statements regarding the debts and the work they will undertake, Köksal said, “Before the elections, we promised to demonstrate a transparent management approach. After receiving our mandate, we met with an independent auditor to request an assessment of our municipality's financial situation. We will hang our debt table both outside and inside our municipal building. Accordingly, our current total debt is 1 billion 574 million 884 thousand 596 TL. We know that with your trust and patience in us, we will overcome every difficulty. As we promised, we will work day and night without tiring to reduce the municipality's debts and increase your revenues.”
"THEY ATE AND DRANK IT ALL"
Stating that their goal is to make Afyonkarahisar more livable, Mayor Köksal continued her remarks as follows:
“We will encourage the necessary investments to make our Afyonkarahisar more beautiful. They ate and drank it all, and left the bills for us to pay. We will handle this high debt and serve all our citizens here in the best way possible. I will spend the municipality's revenues not on 3-4 people or Syrians, but to serve all our fellow citizens. We will account for every penny we spend and demonstrate a transparent management. Everything is for a more beautiful Afyonkarahisar.”
