Burdur's first female governor: Tülay Baydar Bilgihan becomes the first woman appointed as governor to the city

With the Presidential decree dated September 18, 2024, published in the Official Gazette, Tülay Baydar Bilgihan was appointed as the Governor of Burdur. While Governor Bilgihan becomes the city's first female governor, the current governor, Türker Öksüz, has been appointed as a Chief Civil Inspector.

With the decision of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the September 18, 2024 issue of the Official Gazette, the governors of 16 provinces were changed. Accordingly, Tülay Baydar Bilgihan, who served as Deputy General Manager of Personnel at the Ministry of Interior, became the new Governor of Burdur. Burdur Governor Türker Öksüz was appointed as a Chief Civil Inspector.

WHO IS TÜLAY BAYDAR BİLGİHAN?

Tülay Baydar Bilgihan, who was appointed as the Governor of Burdur, was born in 1978 in the Tutak district of Ağrı. After graduating from the Department of Public Administration at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Gazi University in 1998, she began her career in the Civil Administration profession as a District Governor candidate in 2000. Following a training period of approximately three years, she served respectively as District Governor of Isparta-Yenişar Bademli, Erzurum-Köprüköy, Malatya-Hekimhan, Denizli-Kale and Babadağ, Deputy Governor of Erzincan, District Governor of Yalova-Armutlu, District Governor of Kayseri-Hacılar, Branch Manager and Head of the Identity Cards Department at the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs, and served as the District Governor of Ankara-Gölbaşı between 2017 and 2022.

Baydar Bilgihan began her role as Deputy General Manager at the General Directorate of Provincial Administration on August 26, 2022. She was appointed as Deputy General Manager of the General Directorate of Personnel with the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette dated August 24, 2023.

Having prepared her thesis titled “Management Ethics Studies in England” as a result of her master's degree in Management Sciences at the Ankara University Institute of Social Sciences, Bilgihan also completed a master's degree on European Union studies at the University of Portsmouth in England, where she was sent by the Ministry of Interior in 2008, and completed her thesis on “The Role of Environmental NGOs and the Problem of the Democratic Deficit in the EU.”
