Businessman on trial in earthquake case hosted on state channel

Blocks A and B of the Manolya Site, located in the Şazibey neighborhood of Kahramanmaraş's Onikişubat district, collapsed during the February 6 earthquakes. 35 people living in the building lost their lives, and 4 people were injured.

The Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit against contractor, static technical supervisor, and static project author Osman Polat Yalçın; MADO owner and partner of MADO-owned Tarhanacı Kafe, Atila Kanbur; MADO Group of Companies Chairman of the Board and partner of Tarhanacı Kafe, Mehmet Sait Kanbur; as well as Tarhanacı Kafe partners Ali Rıza Eren and Mümtaz Eren, and the owner of the business named Haşiroğlu Tarhana, Faruk Çiftaslan, seeking up to 22 years and 6 months in prison each for the crime of "causing death and injury by conscious negligence."

On the other hand, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office prepared an indictment against Fahri Yiğitoğlu, the municipal zoning director, and Veli Çiftaslan, the deputy municipal zoning director, who were serving in the Kahramanmaraş Municipality project and building control units at the time of the building's construction and who performed the necessary permit and approval procedures for the foundation visa processes during the construction phase of the structure under investigation, for the crime of "causing death and injury by negligence."
