Calendar deadlock in framework law: AKP at odds with MHP and DEM Party over second opening process

Meanwhile, the MHP and DEM Party argue that the regulation should be addressed before the summer recess, with MHP officials stating that Parliament could work until the beginning of August if necessary.

While the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) is expected to conclude its work and go on recess next week, contacts and behind-the-scenes traffic regarding the second process, dubbed "Terror-Free Turkey," continue. It is stated that there are differing assessments between the AKP, MHP, and DEM Party regarding the calendar for the framework law preparations, which are seen as one of the important topics of the process.
AKP EMPHASIZES OCTOBER
According to a report by Cumhuriyet, AKP officials assess that it is difficult for the proposal to be enacted before Parliament goes on recess. Party sources state that it would be more appropriate to leave the regulation for the new legislative year starting in October, both in terms of completing technical preparations and finalizing the negotiations conducted with political parties.
In ruling party circles, the assessment is made that “Instead of rushing the process, it is necessary to advance it on a more solid foundation.”
MHP AND DEM PARTY DO NOT WANT THE PROPOSAL DELAYED
The MHP wing expresses the view that the framework law should be brought to the agenda before Parliament goes on recess in order to gain public support. It is stated that the DEM Party has a similar expectation and assesses that leaving the proposal until after the summer could cause a perception that the process is slowing down.
It was learned that MHP officials stated that the TBMM could continue its work until the beginning of August if needed.
It was noted that political contacts are continuing so that the AKP's approach of postponing the regulation to October does not cause discomfort within the DEM Party.
Party sources conveyed that the framework law preparations have not been shelved and that the DEM Party has been informed that it is only being postponed due to the parliamentary calendar. It was stated that AKP officials emphasized that the proposal would be among the first agenda items of the new legislative year.
